Sabi Sands Game Reserve Kruger November 2014

|Comments are Off

The Sabi Sands Game Reserve never dissapoints . The wildife viewing is exceptional ! It is by far one of our favourite Kruger destinations . The great news is that one can fly direct from Cape-Town or Johannesburg to Skukuza Airport …the flight arrives just in time for lunch and the afternoon game drive to follow . Upon arrival you will be met by your transfer driver and taken to your lodge in the Sabi Sands .The Sabi Sands entrance gate is right next to Skukuza airport …one minute you will be stepping off the plane and five minuites  later on to your game drive vehicle where your safari begins . We had the pleasure of staying at Kirkmans Camp .

Kirkman’s Kamp, with its spectacular views of the unspoiled wilderness
and of the Sand River. It is a well known historic camp, originally built in the early 1920’s, and celebrates the atmosphere of an early South African lowveld homestead, with a colonial style and gracious ambience.

Each of the 18 guest cottages has a private veranda overlooking the Sand River and is furnished in the same charming style with en-suite bathrooms. The colonial atmosphere of gracious style and luxury has been retained, and guests step back in time upon entering the original homestead, which now houses the Lodge’s sitting, dining and bar areas.

Why Visit Kirkmans Kamp :

  • Day and night game drives, walking safari and bush walks
  • Historic atmosphere of authentic 1920s Transvaal homestead
  • One of the loved lodges in the Sabi Sand and perfect for all travellers – families and children welcome
  • Imbued with the history of Harry Kirkman
  • Relaxed and social family atmosphere
  • Famed for leopard sightings
  • Big Five game reserve shares unfenced borders with the Kruger National Park, traversing 6 300 hectares (15 000 acres)

We had a wonderful time at Kirkmans and always special to visit the Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve

Hello Gelle

Thank you for your email once again 🙂

Thank you for organising and booking my safari for me, you offered over and above what my request and expectations were for my first safari.
My safari experience was breathtaking, words can not describe how amazing it was. I saw all the Big 5 and experienced some very rare sightings of wild dogs and a lion ‘Kill’.
The accommodation and staff were outstanding from the minute you arrive to when you leave. The food was beautiful and no way you could resist the homemade cuisine.

‘The Kill’
We were watching a pride of 10 lions and following them, when suddenly a buffalo gave birth to a calf and straight away the lions attacked and got the new born, the mother buffalo tried to defend her calf but couldn’t. The next minute the lions turned on the mother buffalo, chasing and then attacked her and brought her down. It took 7 lions one hour to kill the buffalo, one was hanging off the face of the buffalo by trying to suffocate it with its mouth wrapped round the buffalos face. I took a video of the whole thing and will be sending it to the Camp once I have put it all together.

Thanks again Gelle and I look forward to coming to SA again soon,

Kind regards,

Sarah ( Timbavati Luxury Kruger Safari May 2012 )

Hi George and Chrissie,
Sorry to be just getting back to you, but having recovered from jet lag and seeing grandchildren, we having been busy organizing
pictures, to show everyone.
We had a fantastic time throughout our trip. We thought starting at Vic Falls was a good introduction as to what we were to see in
the coming days. We did the elephant safari, visited the falls and befriended Sylvester. Everyone was so nice and welcomed you
in a warm way.
Our next stop, Chobe game lodge, gave us a full schedule to follow and the sights blew us away. We saw every animal that one could
expect to see and some we never expected. It was great to see the wild life on the river as well as on the game drives.
At Savute we had a tent in front of a water hole where all the elephants and giraffes would stop for drinks. Again here and at Moremi I
think we were lucky to see all the animals we saw and a couple kills besides.
The weather was unusually hot for a few days, but it felt good traveling in the jeeps. The food was very good and we got to taste some
of the game. The facilities were very good and we were impressed with all the workers, guides, cooks, etc and how friendly and
enthusiastic they all were, always there to welcome you and to say goodbye on leaving.
We spent 3 nights at the VA hotel in CT. We had a full day tour and traveled to Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point, saw the seals,
penquines and lunched at the Cape. We also did the hop on hop off, stopped at the local market and had lunch at Camps Bay, but did not
get up to Table Mt., because of wind. Lastly, we had 2 nights at Majeka and visited FrenchHoek for lunch. Made stops at Lamotte,Delaire Graff, Rickety Bridge and 3 others.
We also had lunch at the Big Easy in Stellenbosch. We didn’t get to see the whales at Hermanus or your neighborhood.
This trip of a lifetime far exceeded our expectations. The highlight at the end of our trip was to meet Gelle. She came to the Majeka
and gave us a ride into Stellenbosch. There was not one snag in our travel plans. Everyone expected us on arrival, the small planes
were always there on time, the tour guides in CT and Stellenbosch were fully informed on our wishes and we believed it was all the
result of Gelle’s good planning. She selected wonderful camps and organized it perfectly, starting at Vic Falls and ending in the wine
country.
We thank you so much for recommending Gelle. Sometime those recommendations don’t work out, but this was a winner.
Hope to se you in our travels,
Jack & Judy ( USA ) September 2014
